International media organisation, CNN, carried out a thorough investigation on the shootings at Lekki Toll gate on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.
Their findings include an invalidation of the claims by many government officials and the Nigerian army that:
- There was no shooting at the Lekki Toll Gate
- There were no soldiers at the Lekki Toll Gate at the time of shooting
- Protesters attacked the army personnel which incited shooting
- There were no dead bodies at the scene of the massacre
The aforementioned, amongst others, were immediately disproved following the release of CNN’s investigative report which you can view here.
Since the commencement of CNN’s investigation up until the release of their report, there have also been claims refuting the army’s absence at the protest grounds, or the shootings by the army at the protest ground.
Brig. Gen. Ahmed Taiwo testified at a judicial panel investigating the shooting of protesters in Lagos, on November 14, 2020, admitting to the fact that the army had live and blank bullets in their arsenal.
