Know how to read and understand Google Maps

In this article, you will find useful tips and tricks that will help you easily read and understand Google Maps.

  • Setting up your commute

First, you need to turn on your device’s location, Google will automatically prompt this action, simply select ‘ok‘.
Then, click on ‘commute’ at the bottom of the screen and select ‘Set up your commute‘.

Once you click on ‘set up your commute‘, you will fill in the necessary addresses for work and home, select how you get to work, select appropriate time you leave home for work and work for home, select the number of days that fall in line with your work/home schedule, then proceed to click ‘finish‘ if you are satisfied with all your input.

  • Checking Traffic

On your maps home page, you can check the traffic congestion from your location to your destination.
Simply type in your destination on the search bar and select ‘directions‘. Google’s inbuilt traffic analysis will tell you how long it will take you to get to your destination from your current location.

Blue colors indicate ‘No traffic‘, Orange colors indicate ‘Light traffic‘ and Red colors indicate ‘Heavy traffic‘.

  • Exploring close locations

You can explore locations close to you.
Simply tap on the ‘Explore‘ option and Google maps will show you locations close to you that offer services you might be interested in.

  • Saving a location as a favorite

You can save a location you have visited or yet to visit as a favourite.
Search this location on your maps home screen, tap on the overview of the location that will be displayed, then select ‘save‘ and add to any of the preferred options.

  • How to share your location.

Tap on the 3 lines at the top left corner, then select ‘location‘ among the list that opens up.

Select ‘Get Started‘ and then select the time frame you want your location to be shared for, then select the people you want to share with afterwards and share.
